| 1. | Where can I get drivers for my Rockwell/Conexant HCF or HSF modem for Windows XP, or I am having difficulty installing my modem in Windows XP? Conexant has worked with Microsoft to ensure that many PCI modems are supported using a generic data/fax driver that is available on the XP distribution CD, therefore in the majority of cases your modem should automatically be detected and the generic driver correctly installed. Run the List Modem application (listmodem_app.zip) found on the Modem Driver Assistance page to find out if your modem is supported in the inbuild driver on WinXP. If the answer to "WinXp Inbuild Support" is yes, then your modem will work after upgrading to WinXP even when you run the compatibility test before upgrading and you get a warning. However the XP distribution CD does not have drivers for Conexant USB modems or modems that interface to the PC using the AC-Link bus. The AC-Link bus is primarily used in notebook PC's and some desktop PC's. In these cases it is necessary to download the correct driver from the manufacturer before upgrading to XP. If you get the message shown below and you have a notebook PC use the links below to obtain XP drivers. Example XP Error Message:

| 2. | When upgrading to Windows XP, I am asked if I want to connect to the Internet. Is it necessary to do this? It is very important that you connect to the internet during the upgrade process so that the latest modem drivers and fixes are downloaded to your system. This could make the difference of having a functional modem or not after the upgrade. |
| 3. | After upgrading to Windows XP, my modem does not support speakerphone operation any more. The modem drivers that are available on the XP distribution CD support Data/Fax operation only. You must contact your modem or PC manufacturer to obtain the full XP drivers for your particular hardware, a link to the many manufacturers sites are provided on this site. |
| 4. | When I upgrade to WinXP, my modem is detected as a Best Data Data/Fax Modem and it is not working properly. Use the Check Modem Chipset documentation for the correct modem driver that is provided on the Modem Driver Assistance page to determine if your modem is an HCF or HSF modem. If your modem is an HCF modem it should work correctly with the Best Data driver, if it does not you have 2 choices. One choice is to go to the modem manufacturer (recommended) for their latest modem drivers. The second choice is to use the corresponding HCF Generic Modem Driver provided on the Modem Driver Assistance page. If you have an HSF modem, then please use driver "127A1025 HSF Drivers" below to upgrade your modem. The generic software offered here should be considered a stop-gap measure only. In all cases, Conexant urges you to contact the manufacturer for drivers or any technical support issues. |
| 5. | I have upgraded to Windows XP and my modem is NOT working, and is NOT detected as a Best Data Fax Modem. Try upgrading the modem using the generic XP drivers available on the Modem Driver Assistance page or download drivers from the manufacturers site (recommended). Run the List Modem application (listmodem_app.zip) available on Modem Driver Assistance page to determine if your modem is an HCF or HSF modem. If all else fails, please email the "listmdm.log" file that is generated in the same directory to: modem.support@conexant.com. Please ensure the words "Listmodem_Results" remain within the subject of the email so that we may handle your situation appropriately. |
| 6. | I have Upgraded to WinXP and my modem disconnects when playing CD's/DVD's or when transferring large files to/from CD drives. How do I fix this problem? The default settings for the secondary IDE channel in WindowsXP and early OS's is to use PIO mode instead of DMA mode which takes up too much CPU time and this causes the modem to disconnect. Note: In many OEM installed versions of XP and early OS's the default settings are already DMA mode, but if you have upgraded from an earlier OS the settings will be incorrect. To check or change the settings follow the steps below: WinXP/Win2K

| 7. | Microsoft On-Line crash analysis determined that the event was caused by the V124NT.SYS module which is produced by Conexant. I'm unable to find an updated driver on Windows update or know which driver I should use on the Conexant Web site. If you purchased your PC new with Windows XP and the crash was a one off event and does not occur frequently then it may not be necessary to upgrade the driver, however if the crash occurs frequently a driver upgrade is recommended. If you upgraded to XP from a previous OS it is likely that you are using the in-box driver and an upgrade is also recommended. If you cannot find a new driver on Windows update, or your PC vendor or Modem vendors Website, you will need to download the HSF Generic Modem Drivers for WinXP and follow the instructions for upgrading. |
